History

The Manor of Walton was owned by the Lestrange family from the 15th century. In 1541 Barbara Lestrange, heiress of Walton married Robert Mordaunt. Their son Lestrange Mordaunt was created 1st Baronet Mordaunt in 1611.

In 1858 Sir Charles Mordaunt, 10th Baronet retained architect Sir George Gilbert Scott to design a new mansion house in the Gothic Revival style. The current Walton Hall has existed since the mid-18th century, but it sits on the site of several older manor houses and its cellars date back to Elizabeth I's time. It was Sir Charles Mordaunt who built the Georgian Manor house that guests stay in today, and the matching chapel.

The house was completed in 1862 and became infamous through a divorce scandal involving Sir Charles and his wife Harriet (as well as the young Prince of Wales) several years later.

In the 20th century, Walton Hall had several uses, as an army training camp, girls boarding school, family home and hotel. In the 1970s, entertainer Danny LaRue took it over, starred in his own cabaret there and let Liberace loose in the piano bar.

I wanted to say thank you for SUCH an amazing weekend with your company. This is the second time I've been to a Killing Game event and like the first one, it was outstanding. This was a weekend event and it was crammed with drama, scandals, twists and turns throughout the weekend. The actors were incredibly professional throughout, even though they were interrogated pretty hard! The story was just the right amount of scandal and drama. We'd guessed quite a lot by the end but there were still some surprises. The whole weekend was so much fun and so entertaining. It was a surprise 70th weekend for my Mum and she loved every minute of it. We will definitely be going to another event next year; I can not recommend them enough. Thank you so much. We will be back!
Thank you for a very entertaining weekend, the actors were amusing & engaging through-out, we were kept on our toes with subtle clues and further murder victims while the plot thickened (there was never a dull moment). The murder-mystery itself was exceptionally organised! Huge thank you to the actors and organisers, we will definitely be booking another murder mystery in the near future.
