History

The Old Ship is 500 years old and full of history. The function rooms are the old assembly rooms for Brighton and date from the 1700s. The wine cellar in the oldest part of the hotel was the scene for the escape of Charles I. He was spotted in the hotel bar by the Roundheads who were in hot pursuit, and he managed to escape down through the cellar and was whisked away to France.

Some of the bedrooms are believed to have the ghost of a housekeeper wandering through late at night, taking the pictures off the wall and placing them carefully on the floor. After the housekeepers have made the bed when guests have checked out, the ghost is known to sit on the bed, leaving an imprint on the sheets. The ghost of her son also haunts the building, with the cries of a baby echoing through the vast empty spaces.

Thank you for a great evening, all the actors played their parts with conviction that was totally convincing. Our table solved who did the "Killing", but we didn't elaborate on the why, but it was great fun. Much better than just a meal at a restaurant. My husband & I will be pleased to do this again sometime.
